A 2006 survey
conducted by the Ken Blanchard Companies showed over half responded that they
spend up to 30% of their day in a team and 34% said they spend half their
time working in a team. However, 42% indicated they received
little or no training on how to effectively start a team.
In these times of
recession and cut backs, team-building may be more important than ever.
Learning how to work on a team and do several different roles are necessary
skills many organizations will need their employees to possess. Below
are links to 8 articles that may be helpful for team development at this
time.
NOTE: If clicking on the link does not
work in your email tool, please let us know so we can send you the direct
URLs.
This
section is most often used for team activities or meeting icebreakers.
But in these times of cost-cutting, we have to wonder if anyone was truly
interested in this feature anymore. A resounding YES was sent to
Shirley when she looked at what pages get the most views on her website at
www.ShirleyFineLee.com.
After adding the new statistical feature that tells her what pages on the
web site are viewed the most and what keywords are used the most to find the
site. She found the results for her most viewed page so far in 2009
was Free Team Building Activities. The top search terms included one
of more of these words: team, activities, or icebreakers. Which explains why
that page was number 1 in views for the last 2 months. If you are interested
in these search terms as well, you may go directly to that web page with
this URL
http://www.shirleyfinelee.com/FreeTeam.htm.
Besides her home
page, the next most popular page contained free forms for team-building and
meeting evaluations, plus how to get other forms. The URL for
that page is
http://www.shirleyfinelee.com/FreeForms.htm.
Often when Shirley is
training people in meeting management techniques or facilitating a team
meeting, she occasionally gets asked for recommendations on computer tools
that can be used to make meeting management easier or more efficient. As
both a reactive and proactive response to her customers, she plans to test a
few internet tools that are free or inexpensive. The she will share
her results on the business productivity blog at
http://2bproductive.blogspot.com.
Below is a direct link to
the first post on the tools already tested.
Evaluating meeting tools that are free on the internet
"Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common
vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward
organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to
attain uncommon results." -
